Indonesia is a country that has a tropical climate, making it suitable for the development of infectious
diseases caused by fungi. One disease Pityriasisversicolor is a fungal infection (Panu) caused by the fungus
Malassezia furfur. Fungus skin disease drug commonly given is griseofulvin, terbinafine, miconazole, and
ketoconazole. However, the use of synthetic drugs has a negative effect to the body when consumed in the
long term, so people tend to choose the treatment with natural ingredients. Parts of plants that function as
anti-fungal is pineapple skin. Pineapple skin has a lot of secondary metabolites, such as tannins, alkaloids,
steroids and flavonoids that function as anti-fungal. The aim of the research is to determine whether the
pineapple skin extract can inhibit the growth of disease-causing Malassezia furfur as Tineaversicolor.
Mechanical tests were conducted in vitro experimental laboratory with disc diffusion method. The result is a
pineapple bark ethanol extract can inhibit the growth of Malassezia furfur concentration of 10%, 15%, 20%,
and 25% with consecutive inhibition zone 6.8 mm, 7,6 mm, 11,1 mm dan 14.2 mm. From the research that
has been done it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of pineapple skin is able to inhibit the growth of
Malassezia furfur.
