Abstract

The aims of this research is to develop students writing skill particularly in organizing idea by applying
Autonomous Learning. The subjects of this research were the second year students at English Education Study
Program of Madako University which consisted of 23 students. This research belongs to classroom action
research. The research was carried out into two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation,
observation, and reflection. The criterion of success was that ≥80% of the students must gain writing score of
≥65. The result of cycle 1 revealed that less than 80% of the students gained the criterion; consequently the
revised plan for cycle 2 was implemented. The result of cycle 2 revealed that more than 80% of the students
gained score ≥65 and therefore the cycle was stopped because the success criteria have been achieved and it
means that the application of autonomous learning is effective to develop student’ writing skill.
